Our story so far...
Growing up in Devon, dogs were always a huge part of my life. So, after living in London for the last 10 years it was only a matter of time before I uttered those words to my husband "can we get a puppy?" As you can imagine, the response included things like "But we both work full time" and "We don't have enough room in our London flat for a Labrador!" Eventually, he cracked and along came Rodney the Fox Red Labrador, my very best friend!
Being a lab, Rodney needed a lot of exercise and as my husband had rightly said "with both of us working full time" what were we to do? We found an amazing service known as 'Doggy Day Care' in the heart of the countryside where Rodney could go and play with his friends all day long and arrive home to us fully exhausted and all snuggly each evening.
After 10 years in Central London working as a teacher, the fresh countryside air of Devon began calling, and so did a change in career. I always felt incomplete not spending the day walking, playing and fully training Rodney myself. I decided to be brave and start a dog behaviour diploma to learn all about working with dogs. As a result, I have become completely fascinated with these amazing animals and continue to develop my knowledge on their history, nutrition, behaviour, and body language to help me understand them more. After spending some time in London volunteering at day care centres and for dog walking companies, I decided it was time to go it alone and make the move. Happy Paws Doggy Day Care was born!
Since setting up Happy Paws, I have loved every dog as if they were my own. I have found so many of my teaching skills transferable to working with these animals and have had such pleasure in looking after some wonderful dogs and meeting some great people too! I have built up a network of regular customers that continues to grow.
When someone says to you, "find your happy place" mine is here, with the dogs, in the beautiful Devon countryside. I am following a dream career, and enjoying every minute of its journey and I hope your dog can be the next to join Happy Paws, the ultimate happy place for dogs!
